Neil qualified as a solicitor in 1994 after graduating with honours from the University of Nottingham in 1991 and trained with a large commercial firm in Birmingham. In 1996, he left Birmingham to practise in Coventry, where he stayed for 20 years before returning to his Birmingham roots and joined Coley & Tilley as a Senior Associate in June 2016.

Neil specialises in all aspects of commercial property, including freehold sales and purchases, commercial lettings – acting for both landlords and tenants, secured lending – acting for both Banks and borrowers, and has a particular interest in the retail and leisure sectors, acting for owners and tenants of restaurants, hotels and public houses. Neil is himself the holder of a Personal Licence and can advise on all aspects of licensing law, including obtaining Personal Licences, applying for, transferring and varying Premises Licences, and obtaining Temporary Event Notices. Neil also acts for his commercial clients on their residential property affairs and is a member of the Conveyancing Quality Scheme.

Aside from private practise, Neil has been a Visiting Lecturer at Birmingham City University, teaching commercial and residential property to future members of the profession.

Away from the office, Neil is a keen photographer and enjoys foreign travel (especially to Eastern Europe), following his beloved Aston Villa, and getting the most out of his Tastecard membership. Regrettably for now, foreign travel and following Aston Villa do not go hand in hand!

Neil is delighted to be practising back in his home city with Coley & Tilley and is looking forward to playing a full part in the local business community.
